Campaign of the Month: February 2016
Rise of the Durnskald
The Journal of Sorathin (The Green Knight) Session 69
Exploring the side rooms of the top tier was not quite as lucrative. Deadly traps were placed in large quantities in this room and it was clear that some powerful beings were against people lackadaisically entering. Luon became very weak trying to make progress and Cara soon followed trying to disable these traps. I decided to spend the day training after it became apparent we would need to take a break and restore our strength. That night, some movement could be heard around the mountainside. I couldn’t quite pinpoint it in the darkness, but it seemed to come close before stopping. As light began to pierce through the clouds that morning, we spotted the change. Two statues were moved on the second floor balcony, facing each other and staring at us. Krellem decided to check the statues to find out what they were and how they were moved. Suddenly, the statues launched a ray, disintegrating the stone balcony floor that we then stood on. Unfortunately, Krellem wasn’t fast enough to make his way into the temple, and fell to the first floor. He seemed to find that very relaxing and began praying.
I tried punching one of the statues on the far right side after climbing over to it. It seemed like a good idea at the time – perhaps the nature of the statue would be revealed to me. Instead, the eyes fired some sort of ray at me which completely sapped my strength, leaving me helpless inside the first floor of the temple. At the end of the final temple hallway of the first floor there was a unique golden door with a lizardfolk holding a potion inside his stomach. It seemed like there might be something lucrative behind the door. I let the others know from the inside of the temple and began punching a way through the first floor wall while we waited for the others to prepare for exploration. We came to realize as a group that opening the door didn’t seem possible. Krellem felt that the only way to actually unlock the door would be to drink the potion. As he did, the door began to open and a very large slug came face to face with us, laughing evilly. We immediately fled the temple through the hole I made. Krellem’s stomach wasn’t like the potion I guess, so Salin turned into a snake and slithered in his stomach at Krellem’s request. For all the fighting they do, it seems like they are good teammates, for Salin agreed and soon left us. The monstrosity eventually made it’s way out of the temple to meet us, and we engaged in combat. It spat acid at us, but I think other than that the creature was quite undisciplined. After a lengthy combat with the creature was concluded, everyone took a moment to rest. Salin returned from within Krellem and seemed to be doing pretty well. After all, experiences like this are a part of growing up I guess.
