Campaign of the Month: February 2016
Rise of the Durnskald
The Journal of Sorathin (The Green Knight) Session 73
We were getting closer to the next temple. The swamp seemed to dampen everyone’s spirits and most of us remained silent on the trek. During one of the evenings, the clouds began to break, and many of the catoblepas we had met previously were about. Salin decided to play it safe and create the shelter that everyone could rest in overnight, and fortunately the catoblepas had no means of detecting us. We made our way out of the swamp and into the jungle surrounding the YuanTi temple and, during another night, we were visited by a long snake with a humanlike face. She somehow dismantled Salin’s shelter and gave me a warning: “Leave this place, you are not welcome here” and left shortly upon my receipt of this message. I mentioned it to everyone else, but they seemed intent on visiting still anyway.
The temple appeared to sit atop a mountain that bore many switchbacks on the side. Part way through the journey, some YuanTi guards had detected us, and rained down fire to scare us I think. We called out to them that we come in peace, and they asked us to approach. We reached the next switchback where these two stood guard and they questioned Salin, also a YuanTi. It would seem as though they didn’t like Salin’s kind – shortly after introductions, one of them released a wave of force that knocked everyone off the face of the mountain. Thankfully, I caught myself and was able to climb back up to the switchback in time to see Salin being magically walked away. I tried my best to stop her from moving, but it wasn’t in my strength. Even stopping the YuanTi proved too difficult. Suddenly, Salin had broken free, and the others had defeated the second guard. The one that had arrested Salin grew upset and suddenly disappeared.
Krellem looks different now with his platinum blonde hair. He looks a bit like that Sin Rothos durnskald. Perhaps he’s become infected with the Durnskald plague or something? Other than looks, he seems the same, so I guess we’ll see what happens. I don’t think we’re going to visit the YuanTi temple anymore.
