Campaign of the Month: February 2016
Rise of the Durnskald
Thoragen Entry Forty-Three
We attempted to attack the enemy base from the side but they were waiting for us. However, because of Ben Bloodbath they really weren’t as ready for us as we were for them. Ben made quick work of their defenses before we got to the one of the main forces which proved to be too much for Ben to handle. Sadly, Ben died to these forces as well as 1 of his housemates. We had to keep continuing forward though which is when we first encountered Nemrith. At that point we didn’t know how big of a pain Nemrith was going to be for us in the future. Even at this point we can’t really say he is completely taken care of but I’ll get there soon enough. Nemrith ran as we got closer and closer to beating him and his forces. They tried a lot of things to slow us down including a giant snake. This snake was massive. I don’t want to see another snake of that size again in my entire life if I don’t have too. In the end we managed to defeat it as well although, we were really hurting. We knew we had to continue forward. Before we did though, we actually got to talk to the Snake who let us know that he was forced to attack us but was free now. He too gave Salin a give which was a pair of wings. He also provided a gift to the party by telling us how to send the forces using the summoning circle to the plane of death. This was done by a stone that he gave us.
The escape was terrifying but faster than we could have hoped for as well. I think I was the only one that was scared because I had nearly died from the Obsidian Dragon that we were riding on to escape. The Blaze forces were also running and looked like that would escape in time as well. After the dust had settled we noticed that a tower had formed this as we would come to learn was a Magi tower. There was a lot of stuff falling from the sky and we still had the plane of death stone to deal with. Luckily, the Obsidian dragon offered to take care of that for us since he could go there without any worries. Once he destroyed that the tear had vanished and only the tower remained.
The next morning we headed toward the tower. Nemrith had to be behind it but why. What did he know about these and what did he have to gain? We had to follow him to find out. We were lucky enough to avoid the beholders that we wondering around but we did run across something hunting them. He and his “mount” didn’t attack us to which I believe we were all surprised about.
As we approached and entered the tower I was surprised by the magic within in. I guess I really shouldn’t have been considering all the magic that Cronoa has flying around it but at that time I didn’t realize that the Magi were from Cronoa. In the center of the main room was a pedestal Krellem activated the pedestal accidently by touching it. Which an image of a magi appeared… This was a first for me and I’m sure a first for everyone in the room. We didn’t see Nemrith at all though. Where could he have gone? The image informed us that he chose the path of strength and had actually been here before. Apparently, he was having problems with this path though. The image also informed us that if another path was completed before he finished bad things would happen to him. We talked as a group and decided on the path of righteousness. As we finished and exited back into the main room we saw the door was a bloody mess. Luckily for us, we had finished before Nemrith and the pad things happened or so it would seem. The inventor as he called himself informed us that since we had finished the path successfully we now had the ability to activate and deactivate the tower. We noticed a staircase and asked the inventor about it. Turns out only those with Magi blood could enter this area. Turns out that because I’m from Cronoa I had Magi blood within me, because of this I was able to enter the inventor’s area which he warned me not to touch the bird. However, he didn’t warn me not to look in the mirror… After I went downstairs with some books to Luon and Salin to study as I checked out the rest of the area I returned upstairs, I found another me upstairs. Not expecting this I talked to him for a bit. He knew everything I knew. I told my party about this and Luon and I decided on a couple things. First I put on a string to be able to be identified. Second we decided that Krellem’s mother was a hamster as a saying that Luon could start. To prove it was me as well. Turns out the clone of me noticed the string as well when I went back upstairs. So he and I went back down and saw the party. We were all confused as to who was who so the clone and I went back upstairs and decided that he would wait until after we left and then make his way to town. This was more critical than I could even have realized. More on that later though, we made it look like a battle had taken place, I destroyed the mirror and went back downstairs.
After more debate, we decided to activate the tower. When we left the tower the shadow had all been pushed back which is what we expected to happen. This made Krellem extremely happy. The trip back to the fort was uneventful; however, when we got back and talked to Sorien she said something seemed off with Cara but couldn’t tell what. Sorien also let us know that our other selves were dead. Actually, they were pinned to the side of the fort with 12 foot spears. I wonder if he realized that wasn’t the real us. Guess we’ll find out at some point if he continues to hunt us.
Once we got back to the barrier, I decided that it would be a good idea to try and walk through it. Turns out that was not a very smart idea at all. However, I knew that if I wasn’t completely killed by it and my soul destroyed by it as well that we had options available now that we probably won’t always have. The little girl that came with us on the train played with the barrier as well. When I entered the barrier my body was destroyed but my soul remained. I got as much information as I could before telling the party to continue on without me and that I would rejoin them in a couple days. Shortly after they left, my clone from the tower came up to the barrier as expected. I was able to have the little girl put my soul into this body without really hurting anyone. I then proceeded to catch up with the rest of the party who was surprised to see me. Not wanting to let them know I had lied about the clone I tried to hide what happened as much as possible. I don’t really think any of them bought it though. Luon also knows about the gem now which is going to be fun to explain at some point.
We had to wait in town for the train to arrive again Val was going to remain in town still to help with the battle efforts as much as he could. I think he liked getting away from the capital like old times again and I’m sure everyone really enjoyed the time that we had with him. He is a great person. Luon and Salin read the books that we got from the tower as the rest of us enjoyed the rest after the extremely long trip that we had been on.
