Campaign of the Month: February 2016
Rise of the Durnskald
Luon's Journal - Session 96
We found out today from House Esgard that the assassins on the list we provided them were winding up dead before House Esgard could question them. This led to a discussion with the group in which we found out that Sirathen had paid the Purgisursian Legion to initiate a “trial run” of their plan to execute the members of the assassins guild. As we debated on the legality and righteousness of such an act, there was a loud thud on the outer door. As we felt the heat radiating from the door, Summer ran into the room from the palace side and told us not to open it. She said there was a risen-man on the other side. Alarms were raised and we prepared for a battle, but it never came. I looked out through the wall and saw the two guards knocked out on the ground, and the durnskald risen-man slumped up against the door. We went outside and revived one of the guards, who said that a big black ball appeared from nowhere and smashed them up against the wall, knocking them out. From what I could tell, the durnskald had a huge gash through it that wasn’t from either of the guards weapons. We revived the durnskald after Krellum told us he detected no evil. It told us that Whisper had sent him here during a fight with Sin Rothos, and that they had been fighting about the best way to retrieve Summer. My guess is that it was Sin Rothos that gave this durnskald his wound.
Before we could question him further, he was destroyed by a column of cold – similar to what Krellum can do with fire, but in cold form. We turned around to find a druid at the steps, saying he heard the warning bells and came to help. It didn’t dawn on us at the time that House Eltrus is a couple hours away…
We found out from this druid – funny, he never gave us his name – that Isthmus has been kicked out of House Eltrus and was in the city. We said goodbye to the druid, and Thoragen contacted Isthmus, who came to the palace to talk to us. Isthmus didn’t know who the earlier druid was, and based on the descriptions of the insignia that the man wore, he was probably an imposter. He also filled us in on the story of how he was kicked out of his house.
